After two years of planning, the Polson Museum's partnership with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington and Forterra was formalized on October 31, 2023 with our acquisition of Camp Klahanee, Grays Harbor's Girl Scout Camp since the early 1960s. It'll take some TLC, fundraising and time to bring the camp back to full public use but the Polson is committed to celebrating and preserving this beautiful forested space that has been enjoyed by our local youth for decades.
Notably, the ground Camp Klahanee occupies was land previously owned and logged by the Polson Logging Company. The historical connection with our namesake makes our interest in expanding the museum's physical footprint ever more meaningful. As we look to find new and creative ways for our museum to expand and grow in our next next 50 years and beyond, Camp Klahanee promises to provide a wealth of opportunity for the Polson.
If you are interested in learning more about our plans for Camp Klahanee and in helping see the place preserved, we would love to hear from you. We also would love to hear from Girl Scout alumni about their experiences at Klahanee. Please send inquiries to museum director John Larson at jbl@polsonmuseum.org or by calling the museum at 360.533.5862.
Access to Klahanee is strictly by appointment only. We are taking limited reservations for day and overnight use in 2025 so please contact us for details and availability.
